Title:  Buddy Bear's Handwashing Troubles
Producer/Publisher:   Marjorie T. Cooke, Brevis Corporation

Format(s): Text/Booklet/Pamphlet
Audience(s):
Parents/Family/Consumer, Educator, Cooperative Extension, Lower Elementary Students

Overall Comments On Resource Reviewed:

Positive Points of the Reviewed Resource:

Contains a good summary of proper handwashing technique in terms that small children can mostly understand.

Negative Points of the Reviewed Resource:

Jamie: "It was scary when he tried to fool Mother and got sick." Too much empahsis on improper techniques and laying blame for the child's illness. Strong promotion of Brevis products.

General Comments:

This book did was not useful by itself, but could be used in conjunction with glow powders/lotions and blacklight. Premise of getting ill when hands are not washed could be told in a less severe way.

Summary:

While this book does offer a good summary of handwashing techniques and possible consequences of not washing your hands, it is presented in a way that may be overwhelming to a small child. Children 5 and over would benefit more from the story. Constant references to interactive Brevis products makes it hard for this piece to stand alone.
