Food Safety Resources Reviews General Information
Overall Comments On Resource Reviewed: Positive Points of the Reviewed Resource: The video presents information to students in an entertaining way. It is aimed at kids, but adults would find the video informative and amusing as well. The video quality is excellent, and the appearance of J. Gorden Short, M.D. helps emphasize the seriousness/importance of proper handwashing. He stresses, "washing hands conscientiously is the single greatest public health service you can perform." The end of the video is more serious and includes a question and answer review. There is not an evaluation form for the program included so that the authors may make appropriate amendments in any future printing. There are also not any printed or visual materials provided with the video, although they are available on the Web site for an additional fee. Some vocabulary may be too difficult for a very young audience. The fictitious germ in the video is named "Xzzyxyz1391," which may be confusing to some audiences. There are not any suggestions included for incorporating this video into the classroom. The talking hand and interview with the germ is creative and cute. Although the Brevis Company sells other educational materials, the video does not reference this, which may be a positive point. This video is entertaining, creative, and gets its message across. It covers topics at the correct speed and depth for its audience. The handwashing promotion is especially good. Although, the educational aspect of this video would be better served if there were instructions and aides for the instructor. Rating:Recommended
